About LatineLit
A Literary Magazine Centering Latinx Voices
Founded in 2021, LatineLit publishes original fiction by and about Latinx communities—work that reflects the rhythm, complexity, and lived realities of voices too often underrepresented in contemporary literature.
LatineLit was created to address a persistent gap in the literary landscape. Although Latinx people represent nearly twenty percent of the U.S. population, their presence in many literary outlets remains limited. The magazine exists to ensure that Latinx stories are published as essential literature—not as narrow or tokenized narratives.
Launched in September 2021, with its first issue released in January 2022, LatineLit is an independent online literary magazine publishing quarterly issues alongside a monthly Latinx Bestseller List and curated book recommendations.
LatineLit defines Latinx broadly, including those who trace their roots to Spanish- and Portuguese-influenced regions of the Western Hemisphere, including the United States, as well as the Philippines. The fiction published here reflects the diversity within that definition—across countries, generations, identities, and genres.
Editorially, LatineLit prioritizes originality, craft, and voice. The work often carries a distinct rhythm—language shaped by lived experience, family histories, cultural memory, and the negotiation of identity within a broader society.
The magazine is financially and institutionally independent. Free from university or corporate affiliation, LatineLit remains focused on literary quality and long-term cultural presence rather than trends or profitability.
At its core, LatineLit is committed to visibility, craft, and continuity—publishing stories meant to be read, shared, and remembered.
About the Creator
Russ López is the founder and editor of LatineLit. A writer and longtime advocate for Latinx voices, he launched the magazine in 2021 in response to the persistent absence—and narrow framing—of Latinx stories in literary publishing.

López is also the publisher of Shawmut Peninsula Press. His work centers on literature, cultural visibility, and editorial independence.
As a longtime participant in the literary magazine world, he became increasingly aware of how rarely Latinx fiction was published—and how often it was confined to limited narratives. LatineLit was created to expand that space: an independent quarterly magazine publishing original fiction by and about Latinx communities.
López personally reads all submissions and makes all editorial decisions, with particular attention to voice, rhythm, and originality. He remains especially committed to emerging and first-time authors. In addition to overseeing each issue, he curates the magazine’s monthly Latinx Bestseller List and book recommendations.
Through LatineLit, Shawmut Peninsula Press, and his own writing projects, López has built a body of work grounded in serious literature and long-term cultural presence.
